The Tau Delta Chapter was chartered in February 1861 as the third fraternity in Union University, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It was made inactive by the Civil War in the spring of that year. The name "Tau Delta" was then transferred to our chapter at The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee upon chartering in 1969. Chartered February 22, 1969 as the twelfth fraternity in Sewanee, we are the only example of a duplication in the DKE Chapter Roll.
